Crafted from traditional Iwami clay and Japanese Magnolia wood, the Suribachi Mortar and Pestle set is designed with form and function in mind. The mortar is scored in such a way to bring ingredients to the centre of the bowl and to help grind the ingredients into a fine paste while still preserving the integrity of each ingredient. Each bowl is handmade ceramic with a functional silicone base to prevent slipping. Of course, it is perfect for Japanese dishes, but is also indispensable in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cooking, grinding herbs and spices, making spice pastes and fresh pestos. The mortar is beautiful enough to double as a serving vessel or fruit bowl, too.
